The eighth grade team offers developmentally appropriate challenges to meet the demands of diverse student needs, interests, and abilities. In addition to the challenges provided as part of the standard curricula, a diverse array of enrichment opportunities and advanced challenges are offered. It is expected that each student will accept and seek challenges that expand their understanding of specific content and that challenge their intellectual abilities.

School Rules are Expected to be Followed
General Behavior: “Character is who you are even when no one is looking.” We expect all 8th graders to be positive leaders at Rye Junior High. Please be respectful of your peers, your teachers, your school, property and overall learning. Disrespectful behavior and/or vandalism will not be tolerated.
All assignments are expected to be turned in on time and completed to the best of your ability.
Late Work due to Absences: is to be made up within a timely fashion. Make appropriate arrangements with your teachers; Two weeks beyond the due date will result in a zero.
Unexcused Late Work: will lose points daily. Work turned in after two weeks will receive a zero.
Clothing: We expect all students to follow the school’s dress code as outlined in the student handbook. Students who are not following the rules will be asked to change clothes. This may mean calling home to ask for a change of clothes.
Gum: Gum chewing is not allowed.
Water Bottles: You are allowed to have water bottles with non-flavored water only. No other liquids are permitted outside of the cafeteria.
Food: Food is allowed only in the cafeteria or the classrooms with teacher permission. No student should be eating snacks at their lockers, in the halls, or in classrooms without permission.
Lockers: Please keep your lockers tidy and the door closed when not in use. Open and close them quietly as other students may be in class. No opened food or trash should be left in lockers.
Cell phones: Cell phones must be turned in each morning during homeroom.
Discipline Log: Infractions will be entered into the Discipline Log which is monitored by the administration.
